Who We Are

JEMSTAR, the New Jersey Emergency Medical Services Helicopter Response Program, is a joint New Jersey Department of Health/New Jersey State Police program established by the Legislature (N.J.S.A 26-2K-36-et seq) to provide rapid emergency transport and care for trauma patients in New Jersey. This program is operated by the Department of Health (NJDOH), Office of Emergency Medical Services, the Department of Law and Public Safety New Jersey State Police, and the University Hospital of New Jersey, Newark.

NorthSTAR

NorthSTAR, located at Somerset Airport (KSMQ) in Bedminster, Somerset County, New Jersey, serves the northern region of the state. It is supported by the medical expertise of University Hospital in Newark and operates from its base at Somerset Airport. The medical oversight is provided by the Level I trauma center at University Hospital in Newark.

SouthSTAR

SouthSTAR, situated at the Hammonton Municipal Airport (N81) in Hammonton, Atlantic County, New Jersey, serves the southern region of the state. This air medical service is supported by the staff of University Hospital in Newark and operates from the Hammonton Municipal Airport. Medical oversight is provided by the Level I trauma center at University Hospital in Newark.

What We Do

Although there is no formal division of geographic boundaries that delineates its reach, JEMSTAR operates year-round with both northern and southern-based operations. This allows them to effectively manage various projects and services across different regions. In addition to these consistent operations, JEMSTAR also offers seasonal ad hoc operations, which provide flexibility and responsiveness to specific client needs throughout the year.
